Ecology, Culture, and Ancient Ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
A travel course led by Dr. Kirk French of Penn State for the students of Professor Isabelle Champlin at The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

This seven day travel course will be in the eastern Yucatan of Mexico, in the tropical Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, staying at the beautiful 'Lake of Seven Colors' in Bacalar, and exploring the following Maya sites: Calakmul, Kohunlich, Dzibanche, Chicanna, Balam Ku, Becan, and Xupil, in the heart of the extraordinary Chenes region, which few tourists explore. With guidance from Dr. French, a leading authority in ancient Maya hydraulic technology, participants will learn about Calakmul's reserviors and Becan's famous moat. Students will enjoy the beaches of Playa del Carmen and Tulum, take a boat ride trip through the coastal Sian Ka'an Reserve, and experience a private tour of Latin America's largest botanical garden.

March 7, Monday: Kohunlich and Dzibanche
Morning: Exploring the ruins of Kohunlich
Afternoon: Exploring the ruins of Dzibanche
Evening: Relax at Chicanna Eco-Village

March 8, Tuesday: Calakmul
Morning: Travel to Calakmul and biosphere walk
Afternoon: Exploring the ruins

Morning: Exploring Balam Ku and Chicanna

Morning: The Talking Cross in Felipe Carillo Puerto
Afternoon: Boat trip in the Sian Ka'an biosphere
Evening: Free time in Playa del Carmen

Morning: Exploring the ruins of Tulum

Evening: Closing ceremonies and final dinner
