This course is designed for high school level students to meet modern Maya people and to learn about their ancestors through an exploration of their ancient cities. A one week adventure will explore the upper part of the Yucatan Peninsula visiting ruins and modern Maya villages along the way. Starting and ending in Playa del Carmen, students will explore the ruins of Coba, Chichen Itza, and Uxmal. In the ruins themselves and during seminar lectures, the students will learn intensively about the mathematics of the ancient Maya. Twice during the week sutdents will also explore cenotes, the beautiful water filled sink holes that pervade the peninsula.
